The Key Purpose of this role is to safely operate and maintain defined Brewing process areas, equipment and related processes to achieve optimal effectiveness.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
Safety:
Attend safety briefings covering incidents, near-misses, and risks
Review MES/digital brew sheets for previous shift data
Receive shift handover with process updates and equipment status
Deep clean, inspect, and lubricate equipment
Apply 5S for organization and efficiency
Identify and report defects or unsafe conditions
Conduct ATO tasks
Quality:
Monitoring and deliver Brewing Areas parameters (Brewhouse, Cellars, Filtration)
Perform AE (Apparent Extract) and OE (Original Extract) analysis
Conduct beer/tank/colour/volume analysis as per schedule
Conduct frontline problem solving
Monitor fermentation vessel parameters: temperature, deviations, yeast activity
Cleaning & Maintenance Activities
Perform Cleaning-in-Place (CIP) for tanks, vessels, pipelines
Remove trub and conduct decanter bypass analysis
Run CIP during double brewhouse downtime
Start and monitor steam systems
Performance Monitoring & Raw Material Coordination
Monitor equipment and report deviations
Ensure proper handovers
Coordinate raw materials and process orders
Cost:
Autonomous Maintenance & Plant Walkabouts
Perform basic maintenance (valve changes, inspections)
Conduct routine equipment walkabouts to spot early issues
Breakdown & Escalation Management
Quickly respond to alarms or deviations
Escalate unresolved filtration/brewhouse issues to relevant teams
Data Entry & KPI Tracking
Capture lab, filtration, and tank data into MES
Track and verify beer loss, plant availability, and deviations
People:
Problem-Solving & Troubleshooting
Use tools like PFR, 5 WHY, and PTCA for root cause analysis
Coordinate with artisans, specialists, or suppliers for resolution
Team Coaching & Leadership Support
Receive daily coaching from Brewing Area Managers
Assist peers with troubleshooting and process improvements
Weekend & Off-Shift Safety Leadership
Participate in safety pillar reviews
Lead or support initiatives (e.g. 5S, hazard elimination)

Minimum Requirements:
National Diploma or higher in Food Science, Industrial Chemistry or Engineering
PC literacy (Microsoft/SAP
