Description
The World Food Programme is hiring a Senior Programme Associate (Data and GIS Analyst) to support implementation of the Karamoja Sentinel project by assisting with data preparation, GIS mapping, dashboard support, reporting, quality assurance, and coordination tasks across project workstreams.

 

 
 
The role is intended for an early-career analyst with strong interest in humanitarian analytics, GIS, AI-supported forecasting systems, and food security analysis.

KEY ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES: Data and Analytics Support

Assist with cleaning, formatting, validation, and management of datasets from climate, markets, FSNA, and monitoring sources.
Support updating and maintenance of project databases and data repositories.
Assist with routine statistical analysis and preparation of analytical summaries.
Support data quality assurance and documentation processes.
Help maintain metadata and file organization protocols.
GIS and Mapping Support

Assist in production of GIS maps and spatial analysis products.
Support updating and management of geospatial layers related to Karamoja districts and sub-counties
Contribute to preparation of vulnerability overlays and visualization products.
Support map production for dashboards, reports, and presentations.
Dashboard and Reporting Support

Support preparation and updating of Power BI/Tableau dashboards.
Assist in generating automated and routine analytical reports.
Contribute to visualization of food security risk indicators and monitoring outputs.
Support documentation and user testing activities.
Monitoring, Coordination, and Capacity Support

Assist with organization of workshops, trainings, and stakeholder meetings.
Support preparation of training materials and workshop documentation.
Assist in monitoring project activities, milestones, and reporting timelines.
Participate in field visits and data collection activities where required.
Support coordination with government counterparts and humanitarian partners.
EXPECTED DELIVERABLES The Data and GIS Analyst will deliver:

Updated project datasets and geospatial layers.

 

Well-maintained and fully documented storage repositories.
Data quality assurance and validation outputs.
Metadata for all data sources and outputs.
Developed dashboards, along with updated reporting and analytical products.
Workshop documentation and training support materials.
Analytical summaries and inputs for project reporting.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE Education Bachelor’s degree in: GIS or Geography, Statistics, Data Science, Computer Science, Economics, Information Management, Environmental Science, Or another related field.

Experience

Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of relevant professional experience.
Experience supporting data analysis, markets monitoring, GIS, monitoring, or research activities.
Exposure to humanitarian, development, agriculture, climate, or food security programmes is desirable.
Technical Skills

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
Intermediate knowledge of ArcGIS or QGIS.
Familiarity with Tableau, or similar visualization tools is desirable.
Basic understanding of data cleaning and analysis workflows.
Familiarity with MoDa, ODK, SurveyCTO, or mobile data collection systems is an advantage.
Basic knowledge of Python, SQL, or R is desirable.
Interest in AI, forecasting systems, and geospatial analytics is an asset.

REPORTING LINE The Data and GIS Analyst will report to the RAM/VAM Officer (Project Lead) and work closely with the PPO RAM Analytics and GIS Officer and the RAM team.

DURATION AND DUTY STATION

Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda.
Duration: Up to December 2026
Travel to Karamoja districts may be required based on operational needs.
